net

Configures a network entity title (NET) for the routing process.

Syntax: net network-entity-title

no net network-entity-title

network-entity-title

Network entity title (NET) is a unique identifier for this network entity made up of a variable length area address, a six byte system ID, followed by a single byte selector.

Description: A NET is an NSAP of varying length where the last byte (the NSAP-selector) is always zero. All routers within an IS-IS domain must use the same length NET. The first variable number of bytes identify the area, followed by six bytes identifying the system ID, followed by a single selector byte. Each router has a unique system identifier.

To configure separate areas for the router, enter each area number, followed by the unique system ID for this router, followed by 00 (the NSAP-selector octet).

NOTE By default, a maximum of 3 areas and therefore 3 NETs can be configured. However, if you enter the max-areas command, you can increase the number of areas supported for this IS-IS process.

The IS-IS process does not start until at least one NET is configured.

Use the net network-entity-title to configure a manual area and system ID for an IS-IS routing process.

Use the no net network-entity-title command to delete an IS-IS routing process.

Factory Default: No NET configured.

Command Mode: Router configuration.

Example 1: In the following example:

router#configure terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z

router(config)#router isis npi

router(config-router)#net 47.1000.5000.0001.0000.00

router(config-router)#end
