area stub

Designates an area as a stub area.

Syntax: [no] area area-id stub [no-summary]

area-id

An identifier for the area to define as a stub. The identifier can be either a decimal number or the dotted decimal Internet address of the area.

no-summary

Prevents the Area Border Router from advertising summary LSAs into the stub area.

Description: Stub areas do not import or originate external LSAs.

External routes, and optionally inter-area routes, are not advertised into a stub area. This reduces the size of the routing tables in the area routers, and provides some isolation in the area from changes in topology outside the area.

Use the area area-id stub command to designate an area as a stub area.

Use the no area area-id stub to remove the stub designation from an area.

Use the area area-id stub no-summary command to prevent advertisement of summary routes into the stub area, in addition to not advertising external routes.

Factory Default: No stub area defined.

Command Mode: Router configuration.

Example: In the following example, the area area-id stub command designates area 192 as a stub area:

router(config)#router ospf 1

router(config-router)#network 192.10.1.0 0.0.0.255 area 192

router(config-router)#area 192 stub
